Senior System Engineer (Automation)

CTG IT Solutions is an IT Services Company dedicated to European Institutions. We are currently hiring a Senior System Engineer (Automation) to strengthen our team within a prestigious European Institution.

Main Responsibilities:

Automation & Scripting

• Design, develop, and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate administrative tasks, service management workflows and infrastructure operations.
• Implement automation for user account lifecycle, group management, permissions and configuration changes in AD.
• Integrate PowerShell scripts with ITSM tools, monitoring systems and other enterprise platforms.

Directory & Identity Management

• Administer and maintain Microsoft Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, Group Policies and related services using PowerShell and native tools.
• Manage identity and access, including provisioning, deprovisioning and auditing.
• Operate and maintain Microsoft Identity Manager (MIM), including synchronization rules, workflows and identity lifecycle processes.
• Support hybrid identity environments and synchronization (Azure AD Connect).

Database Operations

• Operate and maintain Microsoft SQL Server instances configured in Always On Availability Groups.
• Monitor SQL Server performance, availability, and failover readiness.
• Execute routine maintenance, backups, restores, and security configuration for SQL environments.
• Automate SQL-related administrative tasks using PowerShell and T-SQL.

Operational Support (Level 2)

• Investigate and resolve incidents, requests, and problems requiring scripting, directory, identity management or database (Microsoft) expertise.
• Escalate complex issues to Level 3 teams when necessary, providing detailed analysis and troubleshooting steps.
• Maintain and improve operational procedures and technical documentation.

Quality, Security & Compliance

• Follow secure coding practices for script development.
• Ensure adherence to internal standards, security policies, and ITIL processes for incident, change and configuration management.
• Test and validate scripts in controlled environments before deployment.

Required Technical Skills:

• Advanced PowerShell scripting and automation (Core and Desktop editions).
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy and DNS/DHCP management.
• Administration of Microsoft Identity Manager (MIM).
• Microsoft SQL Server administration, including Always On Availability Groups.
• Experience with Microsoft servers, Exchange (on prem)
• Understanding of Azure services, Graph API, and REST API integration.
• Familiarity with hybrid identity and federation (ADFS, SSO).
• Knowledge of SCCM or other configuration management tools is a plus.
• Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools.

• Proactive in identifying improvement opportunities in operations and automation.

Profile:

• Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in IT, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
• Fluent in English
• Experience: Minimum 6 years in Windows systems administration with strong PowerShell expertise, including directory, identity and SQL operations.
• Certifications (nice to have):
  • Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate
  • ITIL v3 or 4 Foundation
